The Sayre Board is a 24x30 minesweeper grid with 149 mines. It was proposed by Chris Sayre 4 Jul 2003 in the Guestbook as a Master level that could be used to replace the current ranking system. In response to Board Cycles making Beginner and Intermediate score nearly meaningless, he suggested basing the official world ranking only on Master scores. Support was limited as players did not see the advantage over simply playing Expert, and they were reluctant to disregard historical scores. However, players did support his idea of using Expert then Intermediate scores as the tiebreaker for sweepers with identical sums on the ranking. This latter idea was incorporated into the world rankings.
