Re: Chess
I know how to play and used to play quite a bit when I was in school. But I have not played for years and I am not so good, but if people want an online tournament then I would be interested. Even if I would just be cannon fodder.
Re: Chess
I'd definitely be up for a minesweeper chess tournament.
I think joni is probably the best chess player that I've played from the minesweeper community, though David Barry is apparently rather good. Elmar is pretty strong too as I remember.

Re: Chess
I'm trying to revive this idea, and currently checking out options so it can be done through facebook, so players don't have to join additional websites and check them constantly.
I'll let you know how I go with that, but I just thought I'd bump this thread a little and see how many people would still be interested

Re: Chess
Minesweeper Chess Tournament!
I'm making this just for members of the minesweeper community (so it's invite only, I don't want to have to filter through the many thousands of chess.com members. It's going to be 7 days per move, and a format such that we have groups of 5 in a double round robin, and the top two go through to the next round. All games for each round start at the same time. The tournament will start whenever people aren't joining it anymore.
It will be set up on chess.com. There is a facebook app that lets you play the games on there, though. Chess.com is a good site, and well worth using if you're enthusiastic about chess, but playing your games through facebook is pretty easy too. You even get a little reminder on your main page, if you have the app on your left hand bar: it will have a little green pawn, then "chess" as a link to the app, then in brackets, the number of games you have in which it is your move (or nothing, if it's not your move in any games).
Just a warning: if you're using a free account, you can only joing one tournament at a time. So you have the options of only joining this tournament, paying for an upgraded account, or (shhhh!) making another free account.
To join, there are 2 methods:
A - for people that don't have an account on chess.com:
1. Add this app. This automatically sets up a free account on chess.com, but don't worry, you don't really have to use it. It's a pretty good site, though. If you want to use it and set up a username on it, there are links on the app showing how.
2. Right-click on your name, and copy the link, and paste it either on this thread, or send me an email at [schubomb] {at} <gmail> (dot) |com|. If you like, you can remove the extraneous information to get to your username, e.g. "http://www.chess.com/members/view/JohnSmith" becomes "JohnSmith".
3. I'll invite you to the tournament, and you'll get a message within the app (just underneath your name). Follow the link, it will take you to the tournament invite on the main chess.com site (but this I think is the one time you'll have to go out of the facebook app, so don't worry), and join.
B. For people that have an account on chess.com, or are just about to make one: Just post a link to your profile, or post your usernamen, and I'll invite you.
