Custom Density (16x30@180m & 24x30@250m)

Post by DMarden »

I stumbled upon these two videos on YT today and they appear to show someone (username: EasternHermit) achieving 180 mines on 16x30 and 250 mines on 24x30. Bearing in mind that the current records on these boards are 161 and 225 respectively, what do you think?

I had a look at both videos and they create a mixed impression. In the first one (on 16x30) he guesses very confidently and sometimes before really needing to, which suggests to me that he'd seen the board before. In the second one, however, he plays the first half of the board without much need for guessing, which immediately implies that this is most likely the first time he's seen this board and that it is simply a friendly board. If he had already seen it he would most likely have tried to get the uncomfortable guessing out of the way before proceeding to the more time consuming part.

In short, I suspect that the first one may be a replayed board, but the second doesn't arouse any such suspicion.

Yeah I keep the same opinion with you. The first one, it seems that he had some preknowledge about the board, but he missed a lot of easy patterns. The second one, looks reasonable.

One could just write something in the comments like "Wow, cool. Did you restart the board, or is this your first try?" ... Basically pretending to be a naive girl that started playing on Windows Vista/7 and thinks being able to restart is the normal way to go. (Maybe I shouldn't do it from an account that has uploaded an int-NF-19 on MSX)
