anyone ever solved a board with a 3x3 block of mines on it? i call them 9's. I once had a beginner board with a 9 on that I blasted in less than half a second.
Here I had one - made the correct guess, was either taking a 50/50 guess or choosing a square that if it hadn't killed me would have solved the "guess" below. Shame. Was hoping for an 8.

p.s. i tried to post this as an image in the post, however it just kept saying that it was unable to determine the dimensions of the image - is it broken?
9's.

Re: 9's.
indeed a very interesting pattern.
actually because of my playing style i hardly ever notice 9's (and similar unempty boxes), since i take such guesses as soon as they fit into the solve.

Funny. I just had a very similar situation, the logic was identical but the outcome slightly different: http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos- ... 1823_n.jpg
Re: 9's.
A few days ago I encountered a forced guess that I later discovered was a nine. Pretty cool. Never gotten an eight though!
