The Authoritative Minesweeper: Cheats
There are many ways to cheat at Minesweeper and many ways to detect cheats. This article describes cheats that are problems with Winmine. Other ways to cheat include using UPK, manipulating Board Cycles, clicking illegally or using a Solver. As well, every clone and video program has its own unique set of cheats.
Pause the Timer
WEP, Windows 3.1, 95, ME- Minimise the game to pause the timer.
- Hold a left-click on the face to pause the timer.
- Press both mouse buttons, press 'Esc' then release the buttons. Restart the timer by starting a new game or by minimising then restoring the game.
Windows 98, ME
- Minimise the game to pause the timer.
- Hold a left-click on the face to pause the timer.
Windows 2000, XP
- Minimise the game to pause the timer.
- Hold a left-click on the face to pause the timer.
Edit Highscores
WEP, Windows 3.1, 95, 98, ME- Open notepad, locate 'winmine.ini' and change your name and scores.
Windows 2000, XP
- Open the registry and edit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Winmine.
